Its façade and main structure are thought to date from 1626, around which time much of the street was redeveloped. Behind the frontage are significant remaining
elements of an earlier, timber-framed building, which traded as an inn during the Tudor period of the 1500s, under the name of The Tabard or possibly The Tabret.
It was part of the extensive holdings in the town of a wealthy religious organisation called the Guild of Our Lady of Oundle.
